ok I know this will sound harsh and i'm prepared for the thumbs down, but someone has to say it. if you already live in Australia, you know we have a water shortage crisis, there are not enough houses for everyone who already lives here, and jobs are getting kinda short, and if your parents are too old to work, then our government is already straining to support all the pensioners we have. perhaps if you want to live near your parents you should go to where they are, since we are getting kinda full here.

The non-contributory parent visa is currently taking around 10 years and the CPV 12 to 18 months.

Your figures for the CPV are roughly correct at the moment ($66,870), but they are expected to rise from 1st July - the rumour is that it will be a 20% rise but AFAIK it's only a rumour with no firm announcement. You can get the CPV in 2 stages 2 years apart to stretch the payment a bit. 1st stage is currently $40,690 and 2nd stage is $26,375.

Your parents must also pass the Balance of Family test where at least half of their children must be permanently resident in Australia OR they must have more children permanently resident in Australia than in any other single country. More info on page 24 of the Parent Migration booklet:
http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/booklets/books3.htm

EDIT:
The CPV 2nd installment cost is 'only' going up by around 5%. That will bring the total visa cost for 2 parents to $70,365.
